e divine attributeth

The divine attribute, of transcendency (Uloo), found in the names al-‘Alee and al-A‘laa point to the fact that Allaah, the Creator, is above and beyond His creation; not a part of it in any way nor is it a part of Him. The whole creation is to Allaah, as the Sahaabee, Ibn ‘Abbaas R/A said, “like a mustard seed in one of our hands.” This was the understanding held by the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم his Sahaabah, and the early scholars of Islaam. However, as Islaam spread into the lands of Egypt, Persia, Syria, and India, where philosophies and religions all had concepts of God being a part of creation, new converts attempted to interpret Quranic texts in the light of their former beliefs.
