![Son of God in the Bible
what does it mean?
Many Christians claim that, as Jesus is called "son of God" in the New Testament, that this means that the people who wrote those scriptures believed that he was God.
The evidence against this is that people are called "son of God" in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament), yet no-one, neither Jewish nor Christian, believes that they are God.
The term "Son of God" as used in the Bible has absolutely nothing to do with a person being God, or having any share in divinity. It is a metaphorical term meaning someone who is close to God.

Therefore, if the early Christians also called Jesus as the "Son of God," they would have meant it in a way consistent with the way the term is used in the Hebrew Bible.
He was called "son of God" as he was one of these pious men, the prophecy says he wil be CALLED not that he will be literally the son of God.

"He will be great and will be CALLED the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of HIS FATHER DAvid"
The early Christians were all Jews (by race), and familiar with Jewish scripture. and their idea about sonship was not more than metaphorical way to describe the new relation or covenant that was granted to the followers of prophet Jesus message, and how they become as the other so called "sons of God", who were no more than pious people and pure in the sight of God.
Jewish Encyclopedia says:
"The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha contain a few passages in which the title "son of God" is given to the Messiah (see Enoch, cv. 2; IV Esdras vii. 28-29; xiii. 32, 37, 52; xiv. 9); but the title belongs also to any one whose piety has placed him in a filial relation to God (see Wisdom ii. 13, 16, 18; v. 5, where "the sons of God" are identical with "the saints"; comp. Ecclus. [Sirach] iv. 10). This Gentile misunderstanding of the Hebrew terms has perpetuated into Christianity today, and is probably also partly responsible for the Christian doctrine of the Trinity.
These Gentile Christians did not have the knowledge of scripture which the Jewish Christians had, therefore they probably misinterpreted the term "Son of God" to mean Jesus was divine.
The Christian beliefs, as most Christians believe in them today, are not the beliefs of the earliest Christians, who were Jews and would have had a Jewish understanding of scripture.
وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَلَدًا ۗ سُبْحَانَهُ ۚ بَلْ عِبَادٌ مُّكْرَمُونَ
