The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed a subtle barrier in the way of backbiting by pointing out the reward for those who defend the honor of their fellow Muslim . Aboo ad-Dardaa’ reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “On the Day of Resurrection, Allaah will deflect the fire from the face of whoever defends his Muslim brother’s honor in the latter’s absence.
