Saying 'Allaahu akbar' (Allah is Great) when ascending and saying 'Subhaanallaah' (Glory be to Allah) when descending: It is narrated on the authority of laabir (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: "We used to say Allaahu akbar when we ascended and we said subhaanallaah when descending" [Bukhari 2994]
