Respiration & Size of Insects

Darussalam Publishers & Distributors
Respiration & Size of Insects
Insects do not have two lungs like man; rather they breathe by means of tubes. If insects were any larger than they are, these tubes would not be able to provide sufficient respiration for the creature’s body size. Hence, there is no insect that is larger than a few inches, and the insect’s wings are not very long. This limitation on the growth of insects puts a control on them and prevents them from dominating the Earth. Were it not for this natural control, man could not survive on Earth. Imagine an ordinary man meeting an insect bigger than a lion or a spider of that size!
