CAIR Asks Presidential Candidates to Repudiate Anti-Islam Hate Rallies
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/5/15) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on all presidential candidates to repudiate anti-Islam hate rallies by possibly armed anti-Muslim extremists targeting mosques nationwide this coming weekend.
CAIR also urged the candidates to take time out of their schedules on October 9 or 10 to visit a mosque in a show of moral support for the Muslim community at a time of increasing Islamophobia and anti-Muslim incidents.
On Sunday, CAIR issued an alert outlining safety measures community leaders should take in response to the planned hate rallies.
CAIR’s alert noted that organizers of the hate rallies “have indicated that participants in states with open carry laws may be armed and that provocations such as the use of live pigs and Quran desecrations may occur.” It also cited “the recent endorsement of Islamophobia by national public figures” as a particular concern.
