Companions of the Prophet

Unofficial: Peacetv: A Solution For Humanity
“There was a group of the Companions of the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), one of whom said: ‘I will not marry.’ Another said: ‘I will not eat meat.’ Another said: ‘I will not sleep on a bed.’ Another said: ‘I will fast and not break my fast.’ News of that reached the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) and he praised Allah then said: ‘What is the matter with people who say such and such? But I pray and I sleep, I fast and I break my fast, and I marry women. Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me.’” [Sunan an-Nasai]
The concluding words of this hadith are an admonition. Turning away from the Sunnah of Allah’s beloved Messenger puts one’s Islam in doubt. It is not possible to exceed him (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) in piety. Whatever one tries to do against the teachings of the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) is a distortion of the religion.
In this hadith we are warned against adopting the extremism of the people of earlier religions, who forbade for themselves those things which Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) had made lawful for them. Then they were not able to live up to these self imposed hardships.
Islam is the religion of the Fitrah; it corresponds to human nature. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has only forbidden us those things which harm our Dunya or Akhirah. It is extremely unwise to start adding or subtracting from this list. Doing so implies knowing better than Allah; while no-one knows better than Him and no-one loves us more than Him.

asks Allah of any good

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) saying, "Every night there is a special time during which whatever a Muslim asks Allah of any good relating to this life or the Hereafter, it will be granted to him; and this moment comes every night."
[Muslim].

.. "enter completely into the true religion"

Awake Christians
Allah says in Surah 2, Ayah 208.... "enter completely into the true religion".
One of the proposed interpretations is that this was revealed concerning some from Ahlul Kitaab who couldn't forgo their old habit of dignifying the day of Saturday. In response, Allah says to leave all that behind and to fully submit to all of the dictates of Islam.
This is a call to all of us to try and let our old bad habits die hard. May Allah make it easy... Ameen.
