Nor come nigh to adultery

‏‎Esa/Jesus a Prophet of Allah/God‎‏ من قبل ‏‏‎Koki Noor‎‏‏.
« Nor come nigh to adultery: for it is a shameful (deed) and an evil, opening the road (to other evils).”_Qur’an [17:32]

“Say: the things that my Lord hath indeed forbidden are: shameful deeds, whether open or secret; sins and trespasses against truth or reason”_Qur’an [7:33]

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has said in many places that adultery is one of the three major sins. However, the most interesting story is that of a young man who went to the Prophet (PBUH). This man asked for permission to fornicate because he could not control himself. The Prophet (PBUH) dealt with him with reasoning and asked him if he would approve of someone else having illegal sex with his mother, sister, daughter, or wife. Each time the man said 'no'. Then the Prophet PBUH) replied that the woman with whom you plan to have sex is also somebody's mother, sister, daughter, or wife. The man understood and repented. The Prophet (PBUH) prayed for his forgiveness.

Adultery is a crime not against one person but against the whole of society. It is a violation of a marital contract. 50% of all first time marriages in the USA result in divorce within two years and the main reason for divorce are the adultery of one of the partners. Adultery, which includes both pre-marital and extra marital sex, is an epidemic in this society. Nobody seems to listen to the Bible, which says frequently, "Thou shall not commit adultery." The Qur’anic approach is, "Do not approach adultery."

Does it mean that not only is illegal sex prohibited, but also anything that leads to illegal sex is also illegal? These things include: dating, free mixing of the sexes [Clubing…], provocative dress, nudity, obscenity, and pornography. The dress code both for men and women is to protect them from temptation and desires by on lookers who may lose self-control and fall into sin. "Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity, and God[The Creator] is well acquainted with all they do. And say to the believing woman that they should lower their gaze, and guard their modesty."_Quran [24:30-31]

The transliteration of the same verse is as follows:

Qul lilmu/mineena yaghuddu min ab[sa]rihum waya[h]fa{th}oo furoojahum [tha]lika azk[a] lahum inna All[a]ha khabeerun bim[a] ya[s]naAAoon(a) - [Quran 24:30]

Here we find that the men are given the primary command to lower their gaze. In Ma'ariful Quran it is stated:

“The word 'yaghuddu' is derived from 'ghadd', which means to bring down or lower, ('Raghib') lowering of eyes or to keep eyes down as enjoined in the verse, means to turn the eyes from something which is prohibited to be seen by Shariah=Law (Ibn Kathir). Ibn Hibban has given the explanation that to look at a non-'Mahram' woman(a woman other than your wife) with the intent to have (sexual) pleasure is totally prohibited, and to look without any such motive is 'makkruh' (undesirable). To look at any woman's or man's private parts of the body is included in this explanation (except in case of dire necessity, such as medical examination). Peeping into anyone's house with the intent of finding out his secrets, and all such acts where looking is prohibited by Shariah(Law) are all included in this injunction.” - [Ma'ariful Quran, by Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi, First Authorized Edition 2004, Vol. 6, pg 408]

Also we find in Tafsir Ibn Kathir the following explanation regarding the concerned Quranic verse:

“The Command to lower the Gaze This is a command from God to His believing servants, to lower their gaze from looking at things that have been prohibited for them. They should look only at what is permissible for them to look at, and lower their gaze from forbidden things. If it so happens that a person's gaze unintentionally falls upon something forbidden, he should quickly look away.Muslim recorded in his Sahih that Jarir bin `Abdullah Al-Bajali, may God[Th Creator] be pleased with him, said, "I asked the Prophet[PBUH] about the sudden glance, and he commanded me to turn my gaze away.

In the Sahih it is narrated that Abu Sa`id said that the Messenger of God said:

(Beware of sitting in the streets.) They said, "O Messenger of God, we have no alternative but to sit in the streets to converse with one another.'' The Messenger of God said:

(If you insist, then give the street its rights.) They asked, "What are the rights of the street, O Messenger of God'' He said, (Lower your gaze, return the greeting of Salam(peace), enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil.)”

Thus we find that the men are commanded strictly to lower their gaze and of course guard their private parts which would also mean to remain chaste and not adopt immoral ways. These two actions are the very first step regarding the 'Hijaab' of the men as prescribed inthe submission to the Creator alone in peace ('Islam') by The Creator.

‘When a man committeth adultery, Iman (Faith) leaveth him; but when he leaveth such evil ways, Iman wil return to him.’_Prophet Muhammad [PBUH]

‘The adultery of the eye is to look with desire on the wife of another; and the adultery of the tongue is to utter what is forbidden.’ _Prophet Muhammad [PBUH]

‘Ye followers of Muhammad, I swear of God[The Creator], there is not anything which God[The Creator] so abhors, as adultery.’ _Prophet Muhammad [PBUH]

‘Every eye is an adulterer; and every woman perfumeth herself, and goeth to an assembly where men are, wishing to show herself to them, with a look of lasciviousness, is an adultress.’_Prophet Muhammad [PBUH]
