It
is the month in which we are encouraged to fast as much as we can,
however we should not fast the entire month as we do in Ramadhan. The
most important day of fasting in this month is the fast of ‘Aashoora,
the 10th, which expiates the minor sins of one whole year. (Saheeh
Muslim)
The fast of ‘Aashoora' is in commemoration of the day that Allah saved the Children of Israel and their prophet Moses, peace be upon him, from their enemy. It is a day also venerated by the Jews. [Bukhari]

There are different ways to fast this occasion. One can choose to fast
the 10th of Muharram only (the day of ‘Aashoora'), but it is recommended
to also fast the previous day or the day following it along with it.
The day of 'Aashoora' falls on Monday 3rd November, this year.
For those of you who still have missed fasts from the days of Ramadhan to make up, may Allah accept your intention of making up the fast of Ramadhan whilst also seeking the reward of the fast of ‘Aashoora'.
I ask Allah to help us seek out the blessings of this sacred month, accept our fasts, and grant us His forgiveness for fasting the day of ‘Aashoora'.

Excellence of Fasting on Ashura
۔۔۔ وَصِيَامُ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ أَحْتَسِبُ عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ السَّنَةَ الَّتِي قَبْلَهُ
… and I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of Ashura may atone for the sins of the preceding year.
۔۔۔ اور عاشورہ کے دن روزہ رکھنے سے بھی اللہ تعالیٰ کی ذات سے امید کرتا ہوں کہ یہ ایک روزہ اس کے ایک سال پہلے کے گناہوں کا کفارہ بن جائے گا۔

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، - رضى الله عنهما - أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ فَوَجَدَ الْيَهُودَ صِيَامًا يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مَا هَذَا الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي تَصُومُونَهُ " . فَقَالُوا هَذَا يَوْمٌ عَظِيمٌ أَنْجَى اللَّهُ فِيهِ مُوسَى وَقَوْمَهُ وَغَرَّقَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَقَوْمَهُ فَصَامَهُ مُوسَى شُكْرًا فَنَحْنُ نَصُومُهُ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " فَنَحْنُ أَحَقُّ وَأَوْلَى بِمُوسَى مِنْكُمْ " . فَصَامَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَمَرَ بِصِيَامِهِ
Ibn'Abbas (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) arrived in Medina and found the Jews observing fast on the day of 'Ashura (10th of Muharram). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to them: What is the (significance) of this day that you observe fast on it? They said: It is the day of great (significance) when Allah delivered Moses and his people, and drowned the Pharaoh and his people, and Moses observed fast out of gratitude and we also observe it. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: We have more right, and we have a closer connection with Moses than you have; so Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) observed fast (on the day of 'Ashura), and gave orders that it should be observed.
حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم جب مدینہ منورہ تشریف لائے تو آپ نے یہودیوں کو عاشورہ کے دن روزہ رکھتے ہوئے پایا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان سے فرمایا کہ اس دن کی کیا وجہ ہے؟ تو وہ کہنے لگے کہ یہ وہ عظیم دن ہے کہ جس میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے موسیٰ علیہ السلام اور ان کی قوم کو نجات عطا فرمائی اور فرعون اور اس کی قوم کو غرق فرمایا چنانچہ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے شکرانے کا روزہ رکھا اس لئے ہم بھی روزہ رکھتے ہیں تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ ہم زیادہ حقدار ہیں اور تم سے زیادہ موسیٰ علیہ السلام کے قریب ہیں تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے بھی عاشورہ کے دن روزہ رکھا اور اپنے صحابہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہم کو بھی روزہ رکھنے کا حکم فرمایا۔

Então Adão abriu seus olhos e olhou para o belo rosto de uma mulher que
o olhava fixamente. Adão estava surpreso e perguntou à mulher por que
ela havia sido criada. Ela revelou que
foi para aliviar sua solidão e trazer-lhe tranquilidade. Os anjos
questionaram Adão. Eles sabiam que Adão possuía o conhecimento de
coisas que não sabiam, e o conhecimento do que a humanidade precisaria
para ocupar a terra. Disseram ‘quem é essa?’ e Adão respondeu ‘essa é
Eva’.

Eva é Hawwa em árabe;
vem da palavra raiz hay, que significa vivente. Eva também é uma
variante da antiga palavra hebraica Havva, que também deriva de hay.
Adão informou aos anjos que Eva recebeu esse nome porque ela foi feita
de uma parte dele e ele, Adão, era um ser vivo.
As tradições
judaicas e cristãs também sustentam que Eva foi criada da costela de
Adão, embora em uma tradução literal da tradição judaica, costela às
vezes se refira à parte lateral.
“E disse (o Senhor): ‘Ó humanos,
temei a vosso Senhor, que vos criou de um só ser, do qual criou a sua
companheira e, de ambos, fez descender inumeráveis homens e mulheres.’”
(Alcorão 4:1)
As tradições do Profeta Muhammad relatam que Eva
foi criada enquanto Adão estava dormindo de sua costela esquerda mais
curta e que, depois de algum tempo, foi recoberta com carne. Ele
(Profeta Muhammad) usou a história da criação de Eva da costela de Adão
como base para implorar às pessoas que fossem gentis com as mulheres.
“Ó muçulmanos! Eu os aviso para serem gentis com as mulheres, porque
elas foram criadas de uma costela e a parte mais curva da costela é a
superior. Se tentarem torná-la reta quebrará, e se a deixarem,
continuará curva; então peço que cuidem das mulheres.” (Saheeh
Al-Bukhari)
Morada no Paraíso
Adão e Eva moravam em
tranquilidade no Paraíso. Isso, também, está de acordo nas tradições
islâmicas, cristãs e judaicas. O Islã nos diz que todo o Paraíso era
deles para que desfrutassem e Deus disse a Adão “habita o Paraíso com a
tua esposa e desfrutai dele com a prodigalidade que vos aprouver...”
(Alcorão 2:35).
O Alcorão não revela a localização exata de onde
era esse Paraíso; entretanto, comentadores concordam que não é na terra,
e que o conhecimento de sua localização não beneficia a humanidade. O
benefício está no entendimento da lição dos eventos que ocorreram lá.
Deus continuou Suas instruções para Adão e Eva advertindo-os “...porém,
não vos aproximeis desta árvore, porque vos contareis entre os
iníquos.” (Alcorão 2:35).
O Alcorão não revela que tipo de árvore
era essa; não temos detalhes e buscar esse conhecimento também não traz
benefício. O que se entende é que Adão e Eva viviam uma existência
tranquila e compreenderam que estavam proibidos de comer da árvore.
Entretanto, Satanás esperava para explorar a fraqueza da humanidade.
Quem é Satanás?
Satanás é uma criatura do mundo dos Jinns. Os Jinns são uma criação de
Deus feita do fogo. São separados e diferentes tanto dos anjos quanto
da humanidade; entretanto, como a humanidade, possuem o poder da razão e
podem escolher entre o bem e o mal. Os Jinns existiam antes da criação
de Adão e Satanás era o mais virtuoso entre eles, tanto que foi elevado a
uma alta posição entre os anjos.
“Todos os anjos se prostraram.
Menos Lúcifer, que se negou a ser um dos prostrados. Disse (o Senhor):
Ó Lúcifer, que foi que te impediu de seres um dos prostrados?
Respondeu: ‘É inadmissível que me prostre ante um ser que criaste de
argila, de barro modelável.’ Disse (o Senhor): ‘Vai-te daqui (do
Paraíso), porque és maldito! E a maldição pesará sobre ti até o Dia do
Juízo.’” (Alcorão 15:30-35)
O Papel de Satanás
Satanás
estava no Paraíso de Adão e Eva e seu voto foi desorientá-los e
enganá-los e a seus descendentes. Satanás disse: “...desviá-los-ei da
Tua senda reta. E, então, atacá-los-ei pela frente e por trás, pela
direita e pela esquerda...” (Alcorão 7:16-17).
Satanás é
arrogante e se considera melhor que Adão e, portanto, que da humanidade.
Ele é astucioso e esperto, mas entende a fraqueza dos seres humanos;
reconhece seus amores e desejos.
Satanás não disse a Adão e Eva
“vão comer daquela árvore” nem disse claramente que desobedecessem a
Deus. Ele sussurrou em seus corações e plantou pensamentos e desejos
inquietantes. Satanás disse a Adão e Eva: “...Vosso Senhor vos proibiu
esta árvore para que não vos convertêsseis em dois anjos ou não
estivésseis entre os imortais.” (Alcorão 7:20).
Suas mentes se
encheram de pensamentos sobre a árvore, e um dia decidiram comer dela.
Adão e Eva se comportaram como todos os seres humanos; se preocuparam
com seus próprios pensamentos e os sussurros de Satanás e esqueceram o
aviso de Deus.
É nesse ponto que as tradições judaicas e cristãs
diferem muito do Islã. Em momento algum as palavras de Deus – o
Alcorão, ou as tradições e ditos do Profeta Muhammad – indicam que
Satanás veio para Adão e Eva na forma de uma cobra ou serpente.
O
Islã de forma alguma indica que Eva era a mais fraca dos dois, ou que
ela tentou Adão a desobedecer Deus. Comer o fruto da árvore foi um erro
cometido por ambos, Adão e Eva. Eles têm a mesma responsabilidade.
Não era o pecado original mencionado nas tradições cristãs. Os
descendentes de Adão não estão sendo punidos pelos pecados de seus pais
originais. Foi um erro e Deus, em Sua infinita Sabedoria e
Misericórdia, perdoou a ambos.***

Respondeu: ‘É inadmissível que me prostre ante um ser que criaste de

O Papel de Satanás
Satanás
estava no Paraíso de Adão e Eva e seu voto foi desorientá-los e
enganá-los e a seus descendentes. Satanás disse: “...desviá-los-ei da
Tua senda reta. E, então, atacá-los-ei pela frente e por trás, pela
direita e pela esquerda...” (Alcorão 7:16-17).
Satanás é
arrogante e se considera melhor que Adão e, portanto, que da humanidade.
Ele é astucioso e esperto, mas entende a fraqueza dos seres humanos;
reconhece seus amores e desejos.
Satanás não disse a Adão e Eva
“vão comer daquela árvore” nem disse claramente que desobedecessem a
Deus. Ele sussurrou em seus corações e plantou pensamentos e desejos
inquietantes. Satanás disse a Adão e Eva: “...Vosso Senhor vos proibiu
esta árvore para que não vos convertêsseis em dois anjos ou não
estivésseis entre os imortais.” (Alcorão 7:20).
Suas mentes se
encheram de pensamentos sobre a árvore, e um dia decidiram comer dela.
Adão e Eva se comportaram como todos os seres humanos; se preocuparam
com seus próprios pensamentos e os sussurros de Satanás e esqueceram o
aviso de Deus.
É nesse ponto que as tradições judaicas e cristãs
diferem muito do Islã. Em momento algum as palavras de Deus – o
Alcorão, ou as tradições e ditos do Profeta Muhammad – indicam que
Satanás veio para Adão e Eva na forma de uma cobra ou serpente.
O
Islã de forma alguma indica que Eva era a mais fraca dos dois, ou que
ela tentou Adão a desobedecer Deus. Comer o fruto da árvore foi um erro
cometido por ambos, Adão e Eva. Eles têm a mesma responsabilidade.
Não era o pecado original mencionado nas tradições cristãs. Os
descendentes de Adão não estão sendo punidos pelos pecados de seus pais
originais. Foi um erro e Deus, em Sua infinita Sabedoria e
Misericórdia, perdoou a ambos.***

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَأَى بُصَاقًا فِي جِدَارِ الْقِبْلَةِ فَحَكَّهُ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ يُصَلِّي، فَلاَ يَبْصُقْ قِبَلَ وَجْهِهِ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ قِبَلَ وَجْهِهِ إِذَا صَلَّى
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَأَى بُصَاقًا فِي جِدَارِ الْقِبْلَةِ فَحَكَّهُ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ يُصَلِّي، فَلاَ يَبْصُقْ قِبَلَ وَجْهِهِ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ قِبَلَ وَجْهِهِ إِذَا صَلَّى
Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar: Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) saw
sputum on the wall of the mosque in the direction of the Qibla and
scraped it off. He faced the people and said: “Whenever any one of you
is praying, he should not spit in front of him because in the prayer
Allah is in front of him.”
عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ روایت کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے (ایک مرتبہ) قبلہ کی دیوار میں کچھ تھوک دیکھا، تو آپ نے اسے صاف کر کے لوگوں کی طرف منہ کیا اور فرمایا کہ جب تم میں سے کوئی نماز پڑھے، تو وہ اپنے منہ کے سامنے نہ تھوکے، اس لئے کہ جب وہ نماز پڑھتا ہے، تو اللہ سبحانہ اس کے سامنے ہوتا ہے۔

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُحِبُّ التَّيَمُّنَ مَا اسْتَطَاعَ فِي شَأْنِهِ كُلِّهِ فِي طُهُورِهِ وَتَرَجُّلِهِ وَتَنَعُّلِهِ
Narrated ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet (peace be
upon him) used to start every thing from the right (for good things)
whenever it was possible in all his affairs; for example: in washing,
combing or wearing shoes.

Narrated ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): Um Habiba and Um
Salama mentioned about a church they had seen in Ethiopia in which there
were pictures. They told the Prophet (peace be upon him) about it, on
which he said: “If any religious man dies amongst those people they
would build a place of worship at his grave and make these pictures in
it. They will be the worst creature in the sight of Allah on the Day of
Resurrection.”

![Quran’s Lesson - Surah Al-A’raf 7, Verse 67-68, Part 8
قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لَيْسَ بِي سَفَاهَةٌ وَلَٰكِنِّي رَسُولٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ۔ أُبَلِّغُكُمْ رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّي وَأَنَا لَكُمْ نَاصِحٌ أَمِينٌ۔
(Hud) said: “O my people! There is no foolishness in me, but (I am) a Messenger from the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)! I convey unto you the Messages of my Lord, and I am a trustworthy adviser (or well-wisher) for you.
(ہود نے) کہا: اے میری قوم! میں بے وقوف نہیں ہوں، بلکہ میں تو سب جہانوں کے رب کی طرف سے رسول ہوں۔ میں اپنے رب کے پیغامات تمہیں پہنچاتا ہوں اور میں تمہارا خیرخواہ اور امین ہوں۔
