when he (intends) to drink

1. Say Bismillah
2. Drink with your right hand (1)
3. Drink in three sips/breaths (2)
4. Drink while sitting (3)
5. Do not drink directly from jug or bottle. Contents should be poured into glass first (4)
6. Don't blow into hot drinks (5)
7. Say Alhamdulilah (6)

(1) Allah's Messenger(ﷺ) said:
"And when he (intends) to drink he should drink with his right hand, for the Satan eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand. (Muslim)
(2) The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to breathe three times when drinking (in three sips), and he would say: “It is more thirst-quenching, healthier and more wholesome.” (Muslim)
(3) Anas reported Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) disapproved the drinking of water while standing (Muslim)
(4) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade from turning the waterskins upside down and drinking from its mouth. (Muslim)
**One may not be able to control the flow and amount of water while drinking directly from a jug or bottle, and this can choke him.
(5) Narrated Abu Sa’id Al Khudri :That the Prophet (ﷺ) prohibited blowing into the drink ( at-Tirmidhi)
(6) Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Allah will be pleased with His slave who praises Him (i.e., says Alhamdulillah) when he eats and praises Him when he drinks". [Muslim].

El Sheij al-Islam Ibn Taimíyah

El Sheij al-Islam Ibn Taimíyah (que Al-láh tenga misericordia de él) escribió:
“Debes saber que la necesidad del ser humano por Al-láh , quien merece que se Le adore sin asociarle nada, es una necesidad que no tiene comparación y sobre la cual uno no puede hacer una analogía. En algunos aspectos, uno podría compararla con la necesidad del cuerpo por el agua, es decir con la sed. Sin embargo, aún hay mucha diferencia entre ambas necesidades.
La realidad de un ser humano está en su corazón y en su alma. No puede prosperar excepto a través de su relación con Al-láh, junto a quien NO hay otra divinidad. Por ejemplo, no hay paz en este mundo excepto en la remembranza de Al-láh.
Ciertamente, cada ser humano se encontrará irremediablemente con Él, sin duda debe encontrarse con Él. No hay verdadera bondad para él si no se reúne con Al-láh . Si el ser humano experimenta alguna otra alegría, placer o felicidad que no es Al-láh, eso no durará por mucho tiempo. La persona sólo la disfrutará en un momento determinado y durante un tiempo determinado. De hecho, a veces aquello que disfruta y de lo cual obtiene placer, no le complacerá ni le traerá verdadera felicidad. A menudo estas cosas lo hieren y le perjudican. Pero Al-láh está definitivamente con él bajo toda circunstancia y en todo momento. Donde sea que él esté, Al-láh está con él…
Si alguien adora a cualquier otra cosa que no sea Al-láh, aún si ama eso y obtiene en este mundo algún placer de ello, eso lo destruirá de la misma forma que quien ingiere veneno que tiene un sabor dulce y agradable.
Debes saber que si alguien ama alguna cosa no por la causa de Al-láh –es decir, no para complacer a Al-láh– sino por una razón diferente; entonces, definitivamente la cosa amada será causa sufrimiento… Debes saber que si alguien ama alguna otra cosa ajena a la causa de Al-láh, entonces la cosa amada causará su condenación y su castigo… Si alguien ama algo por una razón diferente a la complacencia de Al-láh, tal cosa lo perjudicará ya sea que la obtenga o no…” .
Toda la riqueza y los bienes de este mundo no serán capaces de traerle al ser humano tal sosiego interior. Abu Hurairah narró que el Profeta (que la paz y las bendiciones de Al-láh sean con él) dijo:
“La verdadera riqueza no se alcanza acumulando propiedades y bienes, sino que reside en la paz interior” .
