🔷 Sunnah of making Dua 🔷
(1) Be in a state of wudu (1)
(2) Have Sincerity towards Allah alone when making du’aa’. (2)
(3) Ask Allah by using His most beautiful names. (3)
(4) Praise Allah (4)
(5) Send salutations upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) (4)
(6) Face towards the Qiblah (5)
(7) Raise the hands. (5) (6)
(8) Have certain faith that Allah will respond
(9) Be firm in du’aa’ (Don’t say 'O Allah, forgive me if You wish) (7)
(10) Ask with humility, hope and fear (8)
(11) Say du’a three times (9)
(12) Ensure one’s food and clothing are good (i.e. Halal) (10)
(13) Say du’aa’ silently and not out loud (11)

(1) Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ), after the battle of Hunayn, called for water, performed wudu, then raised his hands and said:‘O Allah! Forgive Ubayd ibn Amir!’

The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him: ‘O praying person! Supplicate, and you shall be answered.’” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3476)
(5) ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: On the day of Badr, the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) looked at the infidels, who were one thousand strong, and his companions numbered three hundred and nineteen. Then the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) turned to face the Qiblah, then he stretched forth his hands and started to cry out to his Lord….” (Muslim 1763)
*Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Sharh Muslim: This shows that it is mustahabb to face towards the qiblah when making du’aa’, and to raise the hands.
(6) Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Your Lord is Kind and Most Generous, and is too kind to let His slave, if he raises his hands to Him, bring them back empty," or he said "frustrated." (Sunan Ibn Majah 3865)
(7) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "None of you should say: 'O Allah, forgive me if You wish; O Allah, be merciful to me if You wish,' but he should always appeal to Allah with determination, for nobody can force Allah to do something against His Will." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6339)

(9) When the Prophet (ﷺ) had finished his prayer, he prayed against them (Abu Jahl and his companions) in a loud voice. When he prayed, he prayed thrice, and when he asked for God's blessings, he asked thrice. (Muslim 1794 c)
