Nullifiers Of Islam (with evidence)

There are many nullifiers that takes a muslim out from Islam if he does them, even if he says and testifies the kalma of shahadah(There is no god but ALLAH, and Muhammad ﷺ is HIS messenger).

A very common misunderstanding or more precisely a deliberate attempt to dilute the Islamic principles is to say that "Iman is in the heart", thereby justifying any unislamic, haraam or even kufr speech and action. But it is not so, there are some actions that takes one away from Islam even if the one who does it testifies the Shahadah. Its necessary to have ilm of these nullifiers of Islam, so that we dont fall into it unknowingly.

: Shirk in the worship of Allah:

To associate something and/or anyone in the worship of Allah:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَاءُ

“Verily Allah forgives not setting up rivals in worship with Him, but He forgives whom He pleases other sins than that.” (Quran 4: 116)

إِنَّهُ مَن يُشْرِكْ بِاللَّهِ فَقَدْ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَأْوَاهُ النَّارُ

“Verily, whosoever sets up rivals in worship with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Al-Jannah for him, and the Fire will be his abode.” (Quran 5: 72)

: Setting up intermediaries between a person and Allah is Kufr (disbelief): calling upon them and seeking their intercession and depending upon them. Those who do this are taking “associates” with Allah and this is Shirk.

Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “Whoever dies while calling upon others beside Allah will enter Hellfire.”(Bukhārī 4227)

Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “No one should seek to me for assistance. Indeed, it is Allah (Alone) Who is to be sought for assistance and help.” (At-Tabarani)

Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “If you ask, then ask of Allaah, and if you seek help, then seek the help of Allaah.” (Tirmidhi, 2516)

Allah (ﷻ) says in the Quran..

"And those who take #Auliya' (protectors and helpers) besides Him (Allah) (say): "We worship (call upon or sacrifice to) them only that they may bring us near to Allah." (#Quran 39:3)

"They worship others beside Allah that neither profits them nor benefits them. They say: "These are our #intercessors with Allah." Exalted is He above all that which they #associate as partners with Him!"-(#Quran 10:18)

"If you invoke (or call upon) them, they hear not your #call, and if (in case) they were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will DISOWN your worshipping them." (#Quran 35:14)

"Do not call upon anyone beside Allah" (#Quran 72:18)

"Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you." (#Quran 7:194)

Say(O Muhammad), "I only #invoke(call upon) my Lord(Allah Alone), and I do not make any partners with Him" [#Quran 72:20)

Prophetﷺ said,

“Du‘aa’ is worship.”

(Then he recited the verse)

“And your #Lord says, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’ Indeed, those who #disdain My worship (by calling upon anyone else) will enter Hell in humiliation.” [40:60]

(#Bukhaari 714)

"Verily, my #Wali (Helper, Protector) is Allah.. "And those whom you call upon besides Him (Allah) cannot help you nor can they help themselves." (#Quran 7:196-197)

"None has the right to be worshipped but He, so invoke (call upon) Him (Alone) making your worship pure for Him Alone." (#Ghafir 40:65)

Say (O Muhammad): "I have been forbidden to worship those whom you invoke (call upon) besides Allah. (#Ghafir 40:66)

#Dua_is_Worship

Allah(SWT) says :

وَلَا تَدْعُ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُكَ وَلَا يَضُرُّكَ ۖ فَإِن فَعَلْتَ فَإِنَّكَ إِذًا مِّنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

“And call not on other than Allah, any that will neither profit you, nor hurt you but if (in case) you did so, you shall certainly be one of Ath-thalimeen (who commit Shirk)”. (Quran 10:106)

: Believing that the Mushrikeen (those who commit Shirk) are not Kuffar or doubting their Kufr or defending and correcting the beliefs of the Kuffar, is Kafir.

Allah(SWT) says:

وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ

“And if any amongst you who take them (wholeheartedly) as friends, then surely he is one of them.”(Quran 5: 51)

This is one of the greatest contradictions to Tawheed. Here it is important to caution that many Muslims are reluctant (and feel ashamed) to say the word “Kufr” to describe a disbeliever or to point out their acts of Shirk. Some even look at the Kuffar with great deal of admiration, fear and obedience. Those have an inferiority complex that leads them to become blind followers and defenders of the Kuffar and their ways. They are at grave danger since this may “melt” their identity.

The Muslim’s position about these matters must be dissociation from Kufr and Shirk, but Love for Allah(SWT), His Prophet ﷺ and the believers:

لَّا يَتَّخِذِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الْكَافِرِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ مِن دُونِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَلَيْسَ مِنَ اللَّهِ فِي شَيْءٍ إِلَّا أَن تَتَّقُوا مِنْهُمْ تُقَاةً ۗ وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ اللَّهُ نَفْسَهُ ۗ وَإِلَى اللَّهِ الْمَصِيرُ

“Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Awliya (supporters, helpers, etc.) instead of believers, and whoever does that will never be helped by Allah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allah warns you against Himself (His punishment), and to Allah is the final return.” (Quran 3: 28)

: The belief that guidance by someone other than the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is better or that ruling by other than the rule of Muhammad ﷺ is better, then this is Kufr. The rule of Muhammad ﷺ is the rule of Allah:

فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىٰ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا فِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

“But no, by your Lord, they can have no true Faith (al-waajib: which is dutiful upon them), until they make you judge in all disputes between them, and find in their souls no resistance against your decisions, but accept (them) fully with submission.”(Quran 4: 65)

Some examples of this are:

(a) The belief that systems and laws made by human beings are better than, or equal to the Shareeah of Islam; or that Islamic system is not suitable for the contemporary times, and that Islam is the cause of backwardness of the Muslims.

(b) The belief that enforcing the punishments prescribed by Allah(SWT), such as cutting of the hand of the thief or the stoning of an adulterer, is not suitable for this day and age.

: Hating any command or anything of the Prophet ﷺ Message despite practicing it is Kufr.

Allaah(SWT) says:

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ

“That is because they hate that which Allah has sent down, so He has made their deeds fruitless.” (Quran 47: 9)

: Mocking any part of Islam or any of Allah’s Names and Attributes is Kufr. Allah, the Most High, says:

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوضُ وَنَلْعَبُ ۚ قُلْ أَبِاللَّهِ وَآيَاتِهِ وَرَسُولِهِ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِئُونَ لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا قَدْ كَفَرْتُم بَعْدَ إِيمَانِكُمْ ۚ إِن نَّعْفُ عَن طَائِفَةٍ مِّنكُمْ نُعَذِّبْ طَائِفَةً بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مُجْرِمِينَ

“Was it at Allah, and His signs, and His Messenger that you were mocking? Make no excuse, you have disbelieved after you had believed.”(Quran 9: 65-66)

: Involvement in Magic: considering it permissible to practice and spread ways that may (i) sway man from the good things he likes (e.g., using magic to sow discord between a man and his wife) or (ii) reduce man to do what he dislikes or is bad for him. These ways of magic are Satanic.

Allaah(SWT) says:

وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمَانُ وَلَٰكِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ كَفَرُوا يُعَلِّمُونَ النَّاسَ السِّحْرَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ عَلَى الْمَلَكَيْنِ بِبَابِلَ هَارُوتَ وَمَارُوتَ ۚ وَمَا يُعَلِّمَانِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ حَتَّىٰ يَقُولَا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ فِتْنَةٌ فَلَا تَكْفُرْ

“Solomon did not disbelieve but the devils disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the two angels Harut and Marut, but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said: We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning the magic from us).”(Quran 2: 102)

Today, we see many people seek help from the so called fortunetellers. They believe that these tellers know what will happen. This is Kufr. The Prophet ﷺ warned that:

“Whoever goes to a priest (soothsayer or a fortuneteller), and believes him in what he says has committed Kufr and denied what was revealed to Muhammad ﷺ.

: Standing by the Mushrikeen, supporting them and helping them against the Muslims (so that mushrikeen will be the prevalent ones) is Kufr.

Allaah(SWT) says:

وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ

“And he amongst you who take them as friends, then surely he is one of them.” (Quran 5: 51)

: Believing that some “special” people don’t have to follow the Prophet ﷺ is Kufr because this negates the second part of the declaration of Tawheed ‘Muhammad is the slave and Messenger of Allah,” since this constitutes desiring a “religion” other than Islam. Allah(SWT) says:

وَمَن يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

“And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.” (Quran 3: 85)

: Completely turning away from the religion of Allah, neither learning nor practicing it, is Kufr.

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِ ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا ۚ إِنَّا مِنَ الْمُجْرِمِينَ مُنتَقِمُونَ

“And who does wrong than the one to whom are recited the Aayat (proofs, evidences, verses, revelations, etc.) of his Lord, then he turns aside therefrom? Verily, We shall exact retribution from the Mujrimin (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners etc.)” (Quran 32: 22)

and He, the Most High, also says:

وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا عَمَّا أُنذِرُوا مُعْرِضُونَ

“But those who disbelieve turn away from that about which they are warned.” (Quran 46:3).

An authentic hadeeth reported in Saheeh Al-Jaami’ (a collection of authentic narrations verified by the Scholar of hadeeth Sheikh Muhammad Nassir Ad-Deen al-Albani) V.2 # 5939. Believing in sorcery and horoscopy is as setting up rivals with Allah. This is Shirk.

Finally, it must be pointed out that there is no difference (in accountability) between the one who seriously commits any of the above acts or the one who claims to be just “joking”, “playing” or “mocking”!
