🔷 Sunnah of Eating 🔷
1. Sit on the floor and eat (1)
2. Spread out cloth on floor before eating (1)
3. Say Bismillah (2)
4. Eat with your right hand (2)
5. Eat from the dish/side that is nearer to you (2)
6. Eat with three fingers (3)
7. Eat together (4)
8. Don't overeat (5)
9. Don't criticize food (6)
10. After eating, lick your fingers (7)
11. Don't discard food (7)
12. Wipe your dish (8)
13. Do not recline/lean while eating (9)
14. Do not blow on hot food (10)
15. Compliment the food (11)
16. Recite dua after eating (12)
17. Rinse mouth after eating (13)
18. Say dua in case 'bismillah' was forgotten (14)

(1) The Prophet (ﷺ) never took his meals at a dining table, nor in small plates, and he never ate thin wellbaked bread. I said to Qutaadah: “What did he used to eat from?” He said, “A cloth (spread on the floor).” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5415)
(2) Narrated `Umar bin Abi Salama:
I was a boy under the care of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me, 'O boy! Mention the Name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat of the dish what is nearer to you." Since then I have applied those instructions when eating. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5376)

(4) Salim bin ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said:
“I heard my father say: ‘I heard ‘Umar bin Khattab say: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Eat together and do not eat separately, for the blessing is in being together.’” (Sunan Ibn Majah 3287 - Hasan)

(5) The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The human does not fill any container that is worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat what will support his back. If this is not possible, then a third for food, a third for drink, and third for his breath." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2380)
(6) The Prophet (ﷺ) never criticized any food (presented him), but he would eat it if he liked it; otherwise, he would leave it (without expressing his dislike). (Sahih al-Bukhari 3563)
(7) "When any one of you drops a mouthful he should pick it up and remove any of the filth on it, and then eat it, and should not leave it for the Satan, and should not wipe his hand with towel until he has licked his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of the food the blessing lies." (Sahih Muslim 2033 b)
(8) Anas Ibn Malik narrates:
He also commanded us that we should wipe the dish saying: You do not know in what portion of your food the blessing lies. ( Sahih Muslim 2034)

(9) Prophet (ﷺ) said: “I do not eat whilst I am reclining.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5398)
(10) Ibn ‘Abbas said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade blowing or breathing into a vessel. (Sunan Abi Dawud 3728 )
(11) The Prophet ﷺ asked for sauce and was told that there was nothing except vinegar. He asked for it and began to eat from it saying, “How excellent is vinegar when eaten as a condiment! How excellent is vinegar when eaten as a condiment! (Sahih Muslim 2052 a)
(12) Allah is pleased with a servant if he eats his food, he praises Allah for it; or if he drinks his drink he praises Allah for it”. ( Sahih Muslim 2734 a)
(13) Basheer ibn Yassaar narrated that Suwayd ibn al-Nu’maan told him that they were with the Prophet (ﷺ) in al-Sahba’ – which is some distance from Khaybar – and the time for prayer came. He called for food, but he did not find anything but some saweeq (barley mush). So he ate some and we all ate with him. Then he called for water and rinsed out his mouth, and then he prayed, and we prayed, and he did not do wudoo’. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5384)
(14) the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “When one of you eats, let him mention the name of Allah. If he forgets to mention the name of Allah at the beginning, let him say: In the name of Allah at the beginning and at the end (Bismillahi awwalahu wa aakhirahu).” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1858)
