Black History Month kicks off now. Hebrews (Negroes or African Americans) did not practice Christianity before slavery. Christianity was forced on them, whoever did not accept this religion would be beaten or killed. Before Christianity the Hebrews did not follow any religion. They read and practiced the teachings in the Torah (First 5 Books of the Old Testament) and worshipped their God YHWH (Gods name in the holy bible). Slaves began to pass down this forced custom/religion along with the last names given to them by their slave masters to remind them and every generation after that they will always be property.

فَانْتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ فِي الْيَمِّ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَكَانُوا عَنْهَا غَافِلِينَ
So We took retribution from them. We drowned them in the sea, because they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and were heedless about them.
