Daily Hadith | Definition of Pride
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ۔ قَالَ رَجُلٌ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبُهُ حَسَنًا وَنَعْلُهُ حَسَنَةً . قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ الْكِبْرُ بَطَرُ الْحَقِّ وَغَمْطُ النَّاسِ
It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, observed: He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise. A person (amongst his hearers) said: Verily a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine. A man said: “What if a man likes his clothes to look good and his shoes to look good?” He ﷺ said: “Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty. Pride means rejecting the truth and looking down on people.”
عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ جس کے دل میں رائی کے دانہ کے برابر بھی تکبر ہوگا وہ جنت میں نہیں جائے گا اس پر ایک آدمی نے عرض کیا کہ ایک آدمی چاہتا ہے کہ اس کے کپڑے اچھے ہوں اور اس کی جو تی بھی اچھی ہو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ یقیناً اللہ صاحب جمال ہے، وہ جمال ہی کو پسند کرتا ہے۔ تکبر تو حق کی طرف سے منہ موڑنے اور دوسرے لوگوں کو کمتر سمجھنے کو کہتے ہیں۔
