Ibn Asakir reported: Fudayl ibn ‘Iyad, may Allah have mercy on him, said, “If you love for people to be equal to you, then you have not fulfilled sincerity for the sake of your Lord. How so while you love for people to be less than you?”

Ibn Rajab said, “He is indicating that true sincerity for them is to love for them to be above you, for this is an exalted spiritual station and a high degree of good will.”
