In the Qurans sequence

قام ‏‎Nouman Ali Khan‎‏ بتحديث حالته.
In the Qurans sequence, the first mention of heaven occurs in al Baqarah. Believers are told about its fruit...
“Every time they are provided nourishment from any fruit from the gardens, they say “this is exactly what we were nourished with before”. As what they are brought appears identical. “
(Translation courtesy of Sh. Sohaib Saeed & myself)
The part of this ayah where believers in heaven recall the connection between what they’re being nourished with and what they used to be nourished with in the past has been looked at in two ways:
1. We will recall something we used to eat in this life and the heavenly food conjures up its memory.
2. The next meal in heaven draws ones mind to a previous heavenly meal as it looks the same though surprises them with new taste every time.
But Al Alusi had this beautiful thought about this ayah that he described as a thought that “the heart inclined towards”. Here’s the gist of it.
Every time a believer is given something of heavenly taste, the taste makes his or her mind travel to a good deed in this life that is specifically being rewarded with that bite. So as the taste opens up the senses, the believer makes an immediate recollection to that particular act declaring “THIS is what I was being nourished with so long ago!” It’s kind of like how you look at a trophy and remember the tournament you won! A believer doing right by Allah and by others may go unappreciated by others or by oneself. But in Jannah every last one of these experiences will come back to us in the form of a taste of heaven and we will realize then it was heaven that was being fed to us not a bitter moment of this life.
Thank you Sh Sohaib Saeed for a wonderful couple of days contemplating Quran and sharing this profound insight.
