Daily Hadith – 196

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الظُّهْرِ فِي الأُولَيَيْنِ بِأُمِّ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَتَيْنِ، وَفِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الأُخْرَيَيْنِ بِأُمِّ الْكِتَابِ، وَيُسْمِعُنَا الآيَةَ، وَيُطَوِّلُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الأُولَى مَا لاَ يُطَوِّلُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ، وَهَكَذَا فِي الْعَصْرِ وَهَكَذَا فِي الصُّبْحِ

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah: My father said: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) uses to recite Al-Fatiha followed by another Surah in the first two rak’at of the prayer and used to recite only Al-Fatiha in the last two rak’at of the Zuhr prayer. Sometimes a verse or so was audible and he used to prolong the first rak’ah more than the second and used to do the same in the `Asr and Fajr prayers.”

ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ظہر کی دو رکعتوں میں سورت فاتحہ اور دو سورتیں اور (اس کے ساتھ) پڑھتے تھے اور ہم کو کوئی آیت (کبھی کبھی) سنائی دیتی تھی اور پہلی رکعت میں اس قدر طول دیتے تھے کہ دوسری رکعت میں نہ دیتے تھے اور عصر اور صبح میں بھی یہی صورت تھی۔
