Responses to Christians. 1 - IIN
Many Christian missionaries love to highlight Islam’s history. Yet, if we are to speak of historical realities, let us first examine their own sources.
Consider Lady Margaret Beaufort, the grandmother of Henry VIII, founder of the Church of England. Historical records show she was 12 years old when she married to Edmund Tudor, a fully grown adult man. This is not a distant event from 1,400 years ago—it occurred roughly 600 years ago in England.
Let that sink in: the foundation of England’s monarchy and the Church of England is directly linked to this morally and legally questionable action. Scholars such as M. A. Hicks, The Life and Times of Margaret Beaufort (Cambridge University Press, 1998), and S. M. Horowitz, Women and Power in Early Modern England (Oxford University Press, 2001), confirm these facts.
Before criticizing Islam’s social or moral history, Christian missionaries should reflect: their own “revered” institutions were built on actions involving prepubescent children—a mere 600 years ago.
