ই'তিকাফ বিভিন্ন ধরণের হতে পারে।
একটা হচ্ছে কৌশলগত ই'তিকাফ।
এটা মসজিদে ছেলে, মেয়ে সবাই করতে পারে। মসজিদে যদি ই'তিকাফ করার ব্যবস্থা থাকে তবে মসজিদে ই'তিকাফ করা মেয়েদের জন্যও সুন্নাত। মহানবী (সাঃ)-এর স্ত্রীগণ এবং কিছু সাহাবীও ই'তিকাফ করতেন। আমি পুনরায় বলছি, এটার জন্য সুবন্দোবস্ত থাকতে হবে। আমরা চাইনা অপ্রীতিকর কিছু ঘটুক যার দায়ভার বায়্যিনাহ-এর উপর আসে। মহিলাদের জন্য যদি আলাদা জায়গা থাকে এবং ছেলেদের জন্য যদি আলাদা জায়গা থাকে তবে ছেলে মেয়ে উভয়ই মসজিদে ই'তিকাফ করতে পারে। এটা হল কৌশলগত ই'তিকাফ- মসজিদে মহানবী (সাঃ) যেমনভাবে নির্জনতায় থাকতেন তেমনভাবে কোন মসজিদে থাকা।
আরেকটি হল আধ্যাত্মিক অর্থে ই'তিকাফ। এটা কৌশলগত ভাবে এক নয়। এটা মূলত নিজেকে সবার কাছে থেকে আলাদা করা এবং নির্জনতায় থাকা, ইবাদত করা। এটার জন্যও পুরস্কার আছে এবং এটাও একটি পবিত্র কাজ। একটি হাদীসে মহানবী (সাঃ) বলেছেন,"নিজেদের বাসায় স্বস্তি খুঁজতে"। বিভিন্ন সালাফদের কাছে থেকে বিভিন্ন বর্ণনা পাওয়া যায়। হাফসা বিন সেলিম(রাঃ)এর বাসায় তাঁর নিজস্ব মসজিদ ছিল। যেখানে তিনি নির্জনতায় থাকতেন এবং নিজের মৌলিক চাহিদা মিটানোর জন্যই শুধু সেখান থেকে তিনি বের হতেন।
সুতরাং ছেলে এবং মেয়ে উভয়ই ই'তিকাফ করতে পারবে। যদি আপনি মসজিদে কৌশলগত ই'তিকাফ নাও করতে পারেন তবে বাসাতেই পুরো কিয়াম মসজিদের চেয়ে ভাল। ই'তিকাফ ছাড়া শুধু কিয়াম মসজিদের চেয়ে বাসাতেই উত্তম।

I love Ramadan because that kid who never prays, prays. That girl who never covers, covers. That guy who never fasts, fasts. Even if its just for a month, at least these "types" of people tasted the "sweetness of faith" just for one month. And perhaps months later down in life, if their life ever becomes bitter, they will refer back to Ramadan and yearn for that same "sweetness" they sampled just that one month. You call them "Only Ramadan Muslims" but I call them "Muslims who may only need Ramadan to change".
