No doubt, Valentine’s Day has no place in Islam.
Originally a Roman festival, this day was named after a saint known as Valentine who Christians strongly revered. It’s a day later designed to encourage the manifestation and expression of romance and love towards the opposite gender – be it a spouse, boy/girlfriend, or simply anyone of attraction.

Looking at the statistics, Valentine’s Day accounts for one of the highest rate of fornication, rape, illicit relationships and unwanted pregnancy. Sadly, Muslims are not immune to being part of these statistics.
Let's take a look at why Muslims must not celebrate Valentine's Day:
1. It’s an innovated holiday which has no basis in Islam.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever introduces anything into this matter of ours that is not part of it will have it rejected.” (Sahih Muslim 1718 a)

2. It’s an imitation of the non-Muslims
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (Abi Dawud 4031)

3. It promotes prohibited love, immorality and desires outside the framework of marriage.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Verily, Allah has written for the son of Adam his portion of adultery which he will inevitably commit: the adultery of the eyes is a lustful look, the adultery of the tongue is lustful speech. The soul hopes and yearns for what the private parts will fulfill or deny.” (Al-Bukhārī 6238, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 265)

4. It calls for extravagance by spending money on unbeneficial and expensive gifts
“….and do not be extravagant; surely He does not love the extravagant.” (6:141)

5. Muslims only have two Eids. Each religion is distinguished by their festivals and there should be no addition or subtraction to it.

Some may argue to justify the celebration of this holiday for those already in a halal relationship (i.e.husband and wife). But since when do spouses need a reminder to express their love, let alone doing so in a designated day of the year? This love should already be manifested throughout the whole year and we don’t need a non Muslim holiday to remind us to practice what Islam has already taught us. A husband who truly loves his wife will express his love for her at all times, and vice versa.
