Jesus and Jihaad (Holy war)
Kill my enemies
who did not want me to reign over them, before me
The gentle Jesus was the prince of peace” according to the Christians. But he prepared his people for Jihaad, Jews against jews.
27 But bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.’” Luke 19:27 (New King James Version)
31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. John 12:31 (New King James Version)
Jesus “the prince of peace”?
Matthew 10:34 (New King James Version)
Christ Brings Division
34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.
Luke 12:49, 51 (New King James Version)
Christ Brings Division
49 “I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!
51 Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division.
Jesus overthrew the money-changer’s tables
and drove them out with a whip of cord
Little wonder that Jesus was tempted physically to oust those that bought and sold within the temple precints. He overthrew the money-changer’s tables and drove them out with a ”whip of cord”.
15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. John 2:15 (New King James Version)
One man should die and not the whole nation
The Jewish leaders reasoned that this one man (Jesus) had almost brought the nation to destruction. Therefore, ”
50 nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.” John 11:50 (New King James Version)
It was not expedient to apprehend Jesus in public. They waited for the opportunity of a clandestine arrest.
Jesus and Jihaad (Holy war)
Jesus didn't want to be arrested by the Jews. He prepared his disciples for Jihaad. The disciples were already armed with sticks, stones and swords:
Luke 22:38 (New International Version)
38The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords."
"That is enough," he replied.
If this was a preparation for war, then why should two swords “enough”? The reason is that Jesus was not contemplating a battle against the legions of Rome. Since his friend Judas was in league with the Temple authorities, he was expecting a clandestine, underhand attempt by the Jewish oligarchy to seize him. It would be a question of Jews against Jews. In such a battle against the Jewish temple servants and the riff-raff of the town, he would prevail. Of that he was sure He had with him Peter (the Rock) and John and James (the sons of Thunder) together with the other eight, each vying with one another to go to prison for him, to die for him.
Matthew 26:35 (New King James Version)
35 Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!”
And so said all the disciples.
They had a reputation of Zealotism, terrorism, and repeated insurrections against the Romans. Armed with the sticks and stones, and the swords, and fortified with the spirit of self-sacrifice which they had avowed for their Master, he was sure to knock the hells into any Jewish rabble that dare accost him.
He lead his platoon, into the middle of the night, Gethsemane (It was an alive press, a courtyard built of stoneswalls, just 5 miles out of the town).
But the situation became very serious because the coup was failed. Now, as the price of failure, he had to bear the wrath of the powers.
Peeling onions with swords?
The swords were not spiritual? The only purpose of swords is to maim and to kill. People don't peel onions with swords.
Matthew 26:51 (New King James Version)
51 And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
Jesus deployed his forces
They didn't go to Gethsemane to pray. They went the Garden so that they might be in better position to defend themselves.
He placed eight of the eleven disciples at the the entrance to the courtyard.
Matthew 26:37-38 (New King James Version)
37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”
Jesus didn't want to pray but he was making an inner line of defence and that's why he had put eight of his zealous Zealots with swords at the Gate-to keep guard.
