🍁 LIST OF THOSE WHO CELEBRATE HAUL 🍁
➡️ [HAUL / DEATH COMMEMORATIONS ARE NOT PART OF ISLAMIC TEACHINGS]
The celebration of haul was not known during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, his Companions, the Tabi‘in, or the Tabi‘ut Tabi‘in.
It was also not known or practiced by the great Imams of the schools of jurisprudence: Abu Hanifah, Malik, Ahmad, and al-Shafi‘i. This is because such celebrations are newly introduced matters in the religion of Islam.
The first group to introduce this practice was the Rafidah (Shi‘ah), who turned the day of the death of Husayn during the month of ‘Ashura into a commemoration. This practice has been rejected by the scholars.
How excellent is the statement of al-Hafizh Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him):
> “As for turning the day of ‘Ashura into a day of mourning and lamentation, as done by the Rafidah due to the killing of Husayn ibn ‘Ali, then this is among the actions of those whose efforts are misguided in this worldly life while they think they are doing good.”
Neither Allah nor His Messenger ever commanded that days of calamity or the deaths of the Prophets be turned into days of mourning. So how could this be done for people other than them?
Husayn ibn ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib was the grandson of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, born from the marriage of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (may Allah be pleased with her).
Husayn was deeply loved by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
However, no matter how great the calamity is, and no matter how much we love the family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, this cannot be used as an excuse to violate the laws of the Shari‘ah by commemorating the day of Husayn’s death.
Before Husayn, other beloved people of the Prophet ﷺ were also killed, such as Hamzah ibn ‘Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him). Yet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his Companions never commemorated or remembered the day of that tragedy, unlike what the Shi‘ah do regarding the death of Husayn.
Moreover, if we examine this practice carefully, celebrations of death like this actually originate from non-Muslim beliefs about the return of the souls of the dead, which led to the offering of food and offerings. Such beliefs are clearly false.
