Virtue of the Day of Jumu’ah (Friday) | Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Tarifi:

 Ask A Muslim

▫️Virtue of the Day of Jumu’ah (Friday) | Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Tarifi:
Virtue of the day of Jumu'ah and deeds legislated and recommended thereon:
- The day of Jumu'ah is the best day of the week, with a surah dedicated to it (bearing its name). Islam gave it (i.e. Friday) the name ‘Jumu’ah’, while Arabs (pre-Islam) used to call it (the day of) 'Arubah (Arabism). On it, purification (cleanness), remembrance (of Allah), supplication, and attending early for the (Jumu'ah) prayer are recommended.
- Ghusl (ablutions) for Jumu'ah is the best form of Ghusl, and its term starts at daybreak. It is an emphasised act of worship for those attending the prayer, and not for women and travellers, as stated in the Hadith, 'When you attend the Jumu'ah (prayer), perform ablutions (before)'.

• The night of Jumu'ah and the virtue of asking blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ (saying: Allah send your blessings upon Prophet Muhammad):
- No authentic (Hadith text) concerning the virtue of the night of Jumu'ah has been established; it is a night like any other; several Ḍaʻīf (weak) and Mawḍūʻ (fabricated) Hadiths have been reported in this regard. However, a number of Hadiths regarding Salat (sending blessings) upon Prophet Muhammad have been established as Ḥasan (good).
- Amongst the best deeds (to be performed) on the day of Jumu’ah is the act of sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, for Jumu’ah is the best day (of the week), and he (PBUH) is the best of all mankind.

• (The best form of Salat upon the Prophet): ‘O Allah, send prayers (of peace and mercy) upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You did send prayers upon Ibrahim (Abraham) and upon the family of Ibrahim; and send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You did send blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim; You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory

• Timing of Sa’at al-Istijabah or Hour of Response (hour when du’a [supplication] is answered by Allah] on the day of Jumu'ah:
- In a Hadith, the Prophet says: ‘There is a time on Jumu’ah at which no Muslim would ask Allah for what is good but He would give it to him.’ The most correct statement is that it is the hour before sunset, as given by Ibn ʿAbbās, Abu Hurairah, ʿAṭā’, and Ṭāwūs.

• A person who dies on the day of Jumu'ah:
- Not a single Hadith regarding the virtue of dying on the day of Jumu'ah is Sahih (authentic); Bukhari and other scholars deemed such Hadith Ma’lul (defective). Indeed, a person's time (of death) doesn’t indicate his righteousness; rather, it is his (good) deeds that determine his uprightness, for he has freedom of choice regarding his actions but not his time (of death).

• Jumu’ah prayer khutbah (sermon):
- Minbars (pulpits) are not made only to preach but to give serious consideration of the events occurring to the Muslim Ummah (Nation). In the Bukhari (Hadith book), the Prophet, while on his minbar, talked of the situation with the tribes agreeing or objecting to him, namely Aslam, Ghifar, and Assiyah.
