St. Jerome is not such person,that his views and cmnts can be ignored.
Saint Jerome ( 347 – 30 September 420) was an Illyrian Latin #Christian#priest, confessor, theologian and historian, who also became a Doctor of the Church. He was the son of Eusebius, of the city of Stridon, on the border of Dalmatia and Pannonia. He is best known for his translation of the #Bible into #Latin (the #Vulgate).
He is recognized as a saint by the #Catholic Church, the #Eastern Orthodox Church, the Lutheran Church, and the #Church of #England (Anglican Communion)
In 382, Jerome was commissioned by Pope Damasus I to revise the Vetus Latina ("Old Latin") collection of Biblical texts in Latin then in use by the Church. Once published, it was widely adopted and eventually eclipsed the Vetus Latina and, by the 13th century, was known as the "version commonly-used".
It was made the Catholic Church's official Latin Bible as a consequence of the Council of Trent (1545–63).
Jerome works and beliefs are commonly used by christian #apologist to reject claims,but they ignore his cmnts about bible corruption or early christian acts..

He said that the #Copiers who copied the scriptures often altered the original words and meaning in accordance with their own beliefs.
Jerome said about those copiers that :
"They write down not what they find but what they think is the meaning; and while they attempt to rectify the errors of others, they merely expose their own" (Jerome, Epist. lxxi.5)
that means each scribe who copied the manuscripts and found something he did not agree with,Viewed the offending verse of scripture as an error of the previous copyist and changed.
and we also know that #jerome itself did some changes in his copy...which was used for thousands of years in church.
The New Unger's #Bible #Dictionary states that:
"Jerome had not been long in Rome (A.D. 383) when Damasus asked him to make a revision of the current Latin version of the New Testament with the help of the Greek original. 'There were,' he says, 'almost as many forms of text as copies.' The gospels had naturally suffered most. Jerome therefore applied himself to these first. But his aim was to revise the Old Latin and not to make a new version. Yet, although he had this limited objective, the various forms of corruption that had been introduced were, as he describes them, so numerous that the difference of the old and revised (Hieronymian) text is clear and striking throughout. Some of the changes Jerome introduced were made purely on linguistic grounds, but it is impossible to ascertain on what principle he proceeded in this respect. Others involved questions of interpretation. But the greater number consisted in the removal of the interpolations by which especially the synoptic gospels were disfigured".
