🌿 Understanding Surah Al-Ma‘ārij (70:6–18)
These verses describe the Day of Judgment and how people will react to its horrors. Allah paints a vivid picture to remind us that nothing in this world will save a person from the consequences of their deeds.
📖 Verses 6–7
“The disbelievers (all non muslims) see that Day as far off, but We see it as very near.”
• People who deny the Hereafter think it’s far away or won’t happen.
• Allah confirms that in His view, it is close and certain.
📖 Verses 8–9
“On that Day, the sky will be like molten copper, and the mountains will be like tufts of wool.”
• The natural order collapses: the sky loses its stability, and mountains (symbols of firmness) scatter like light wool.
📖 Verse 10
“No close friend will ask about his friend.”
• Fear will be so overwhelming that even close companions won’t care for each other.
📖 Verses 11–14
“They will be made to see each other. The criminal will wish he could ransom himself from the punishment with his children, his spouse, his brother, his family who sheltered him, and everyone on earth—if that could save him.”
• People will recognize one another, but instead of helping, each person will wish to sacrifice even their dearest loved ones just to escape punishment.
• This shows how selfish desperation will dominate on that Day.
📖 Verses 15–18
“But no! It will be the blazing Fire, stripping away the skin, calling those who turned their backs and walked away arrogantly, hoarding wealth and withholding it.”
• No ransom will be accepted.
• The punishment (Hellfire) awaits those who:
1. Turned away from Allah’s guidance.
2. Lived arrogantly.
3. Hoarded wealth and refused to share.
🌟 Key Lessons
1. The Day of Judgment is certain and near, even if people think otherwise.
2. Worldly ties won’t matter; every soul will face its deeds alone.
3. Wealth and status cannot save anyone from Allah’s judgment.
4. The greatest loss is not poverty in this life, but entering the Hereafter with arrogance and greed.
