The First Revelation: Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and Angel Jibreel (AS)
The Divine Command
Angel Jibreel (AS) suddenly appeared before him and commanded: "Read!" The Prophet (ﷺ), who was unlettered, replied: "I cannot read." Jibreel (AS) then embraced him firmly three times, repeating the command each time. Finally, he revealed the first verses of the Quran:
"Read in the name of your Lord who created—Created man from a clot. Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous—Who taught by the pen—Taught man what he knew not." (Qur’an 96:1-5)
The Prophet’s Reaction
Overwhelmed and trembling, the Prophet (ﷺ) rushed home to Khadijah (RA), fearing he had encountered an evil spirit. She immediately comforted him, saying:
"By Allah, He would never disgrace you! You uphold family ties, help the weak, honor your guests, and stand for the truth."
Confirmation from Waraqah
Khadijah (RA) took him to her cousin, Waraqah ibn Nawfal—a learned Christian scholar. Upon hearing the account, Waraqah declared:
"This is the same divine connection (Namoos) that came to Musa (AS)! You are the Prophet of this nation. Your people will deny and oppose you, but you must remain steadfast."
The Beginning of Revelation
This marked the start of prophethood. Jibreel (AS) continued to bring revelations, which were later compiled into the Holy Quran—Allah’s final guidance to humanity.
Reflection: The Prophet’s (ﷺ) journey began with struggle, but his unwavering faith and Khadijah’s (RA) support laid the foundation for Islam’s eternal message.
