Across the world, we invest enormous energy into preparing young people to get into university.
We help them achieve the grades.
We help them write applications.
We help them prepare for interviews.
We help them choose the right course.
But far too little is being done to prepare them for what happens after they arrive.
University is not simply an academic transition. It is often the first time a young Muslim is required to navigate major intellectual, moral and personal decisions without the daily protection of home.
They may encounter doubts they have never explored before.
They may face pressure around friendships, relationships, alcohol, identity, prayer, student finance, academic stress and the desire to fit in.
They may know how to revise for an examination - but do they know how to make a difficult decision when nobody is watching?
This is a serious gap in how we prepare the next generation.
That is why I am pleased to support Principle & Purpose, a nine-month tarbiyah and leadership programme by Medology for Muslim sixth-form students.
The programme is designed to help young Muslims develop strong foundations in faith, understand their principles, ask difficult questions in a safe environment and enter university with greater clarity, confidence and purpose.
This is not simply about protecting students from university.
It is about preparing them to enter it as thoughtful, grounded and principled young Muslims who can contribute positively, lead themselves and serve others.
Parents: do not prepare your child only for the application.
Prepare the person who will eventually have to make decisions without you.
