For those who are aware about the hinduism scriptures they know that the hindus chose four books from the Vedas which contains teachings of their faith, because they knew about the four human offsprings which that preceded the last human offspring the fifth which is now, and they know that after rise each human offspring there is a revealed divine so they believe that there are four four revealed divine has manifested on the planet earth that is why they chose only four books of multiple books.
The same matter happened with the four Gospels
St Irenaeus of Lyons (2nd century AD – c. 202) said " since there are four regions of the world wherein we are, and four principal winds, and the Church is as seed sown in the whole earth, and the Gospel is the Church’s pillar and ground, and the breath of life: it is natural that it should have four pillars, and from this he concluded that the Word who manifest to men gave us a fourfold Gospel "
The world is composed of four elements, or has four sides, or four sections: heaven ,water, earth, hell
So Saint Irenaeus, in the second half of the second century he deleted from presence so many Gospels such as Gospel of Thomas , Gospel of Philip , Gospel of Truth and there are dozens of this gospels he called it all by heresy so he burned of all it from the the world, and actually he has been eliminated completely the 'heresies' about year 180, as he said in his book "Against Heresies "
This is how they chose 4 gospels because of four regions and four principal winds...!!!
