Is the Bible God’s exact word, or a text that went through human transmission?
Muslims believe that Allah sent revelation before the Qur’an. We believe in the original message given to Moses عليه السلام, Jesus عليه السلام, and the prophets before them.
But the question is not:
“Did God reveal guidance before the Qur’an?”
The real question is:
“Do we still have that revelation preserved exactly as it was originally revealed?”
When we study the Bible today, we find something important: the text has a long history of handwritten copies, translations, manuscript differences, and disputed passages.
Even many modern Bibles include footnotes saying that some verses are not found in the earliest manuscripts.
For example:
Mark 16:9–20 — the longer ending of Mark
John 7:53–8:11 — the story of the woman caught in adultery
1 John 5:7 — a later wording often used in discussions about the Trinity
This does not mean Muslims disrespect Jesus or the prophets. Rather, Muslims are asking a serious textual question:
If a scripture has manuscript variants, later additions, and disputed passages, can we honestly say it has been preserved word-for-word?
There is a difference between **claiming inspiration** and **proving preservation**.
A person may believe a text is inspired, but preservation is not just a belief. It is a historical question. If scholars must compare manuscripts to decide which reading is original, then the text has gone through human transmission.
The Qur’an came as the final revelation, confirming the truth that remained from previous scriptures and correcting what was changed, lost, or misunderstood.
Allah says:
“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will preserve it.” — Qur’an 15:9
Muslims respect Jesus. Muslims respect revelation. But we do not believe the Bible today is the exact unchanged word that was originally revealed.
The message of all prophets was simple and pure:
Worship the One true God alone.
