In prayer (dua),3 things to be done:

1) Praise Allah (God)

2) Prayer for the entire mankind

3) Prayer to be in the right way that Allah likes

--then, pray for your personal want.

that is why Surah Fatiha's (Quran's chapter 1) 1st 4 verses are on praising Allah, then the 5th verse says,

''So show us the right path.'' (Quran 1:5)
