🌟 Etiquette While Eating
👉 It is recommended to lick one's fingers and wipe the bowl clean, and to eat a piece of food that is dropped after removing any dirt on it.
👉 It is disliked to wipe one's hand before licking it, because of the possibility that the blessing of the food may be in that remaining part.
👉 The Sunnah is to eat with three fingers.
(HADEETH 1️⃣) Ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما narrated: The Prophet ﷺ said: ❝If one of you eats, let him not wipe his hand until he licks it or has it licked.❞
[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5456) and Saheeh Muslim]
(HADEETH 2️⃣) Jaabir رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: ❝When any one of you drops a morsel he should pick it up and remove any of the filth on it, and then eat it, and should not leave it for Shaitaan, and should not wipe his hand with towel until he has licked his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of the food there is blessing.❞
[Saheeh Muslim]
(HADEETH 3️⃣) Ka`b Ibn Maalik رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ used to eat (food) with three fingers and he licked his hand before wiping it (with a towel).
[Saheeh Muslim]

📑 EXPLANATION:
Food is a great blessing and favor from Allaah to mankind. It is a means of building and strengthening the body. Allaah has placed blessings and benefits in it, and no one knows which part of his food contains blessings and benefits. Perhaps it is in the smallest part of the food, or it may be at the end of the food, or in what sticks to the eater’s hand or fingers.
In this Hadeeth, the Prophet ﷺ instructs that a person should not wipe his hand or wash it until he licks his fingers himself, or gives them to someone who is pleased to lick them, such as his children, his wife, or others, out of concern for the blessing in the food.
The Prophet ﷺ also said: ❝You do not know in which portion of your food there is blessing.❞ Meaning: This abundant goodness, nourishment, strength, and blessing; is it in what remains on the fingers, or in the vessel, or in the morsel that has fallen? If it is the morsel that has fallen, he loses the blessing when the morsel is lost - unless he picks it up, removes any dirt from it, and then eats it.
👉 BENEFITS:
1️⃣ The Hadeeth states: The command to lick one's fingers after finishing eating, and not to wash one's hands before licking them.
2️⃣ It also states that one does not know in which portion of his meal there is blessing. Therefore, a person should be keen on following the Sunnah.
3️⃣ In this Hadeeth, one learns how much Islaam encourages proper etiquette while eating.
