The Adhan
Abu Said Al Khudri (Allah be pleased with him) reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:�"When you hear the Adhan *(call to prayer), repeat what the Muathin says."
Sahih Al Bukhari - 611
Prophet ﷺ was telling his followers to follow the Muathin’s call, by repeating what he says.
1. He calls out twice: "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!”
We say softly: "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!”
2. Again, he calls twice, "Allahu Akbar! “Allahu Akbar! ”
We say softly: "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!”
(Allah is the Greatest)
3. He calls out, “Ashhadu an laa ilaha illa Allah!”
We say softly: “Ashhadu an laa ilaha illa Allah!”
Again, he calls out, “Ashhadu an laa ilaha illa Allah!“
We say softly: “Ashhadu an laa ilaha illa Allah!”
(I bare witness there is no God, except Allah)
4. He calls out: “Muhammad rasulu laa!”
We say softly, “Muhammad rasulu laa!”
Again, he calls out: “Muhammad rasulu laa!”
We say softly, “Muhammad rasulu laa!”
(Muhammad ﷺ is his messenger).
5. Exception #1 —
He calls out: "Hayya ala salah!”
We say: "Laa hawla wala quwata illa billah"
Again, he calls out: "Hayya ala salah!” (come to the prayer)
We say softly: "Laa hawla wala quwata illa billah"
(There is no might or power except Allah)
6. Exception #2 —
He calls out: "Hayya ala falah!”
We say again, “Laa hawla wala quwata illa billah”
He calls out: "Hayya ala falah!” (come to success)
We say softly: “La hawla wala quwata illa billah"
(There is no might or power except Allah)
7. He calls out: "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!”
We say softly: "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!”
(Allah is the Greatest)
8. He calls out one final call: “Laa ilaha illa Allah!”
We say softly: “Laa ilaha illa Allah!”
(No God but Allah)
End of the Adhan

Benefits from the Hadith: The prophet ﷺ said, “If you say after the Muezzin, you’ll get the reward of ten times for each saying.”
We can repeat what the Muezzin says, unless we are answering the call of nature.
