An-Nawawi wrote in Riyad us-Saliheen in his chapter on helping a companion:
Regarding this chapter, we have put forth many narrati
Regarding this chapter, we have put forth many narrati
ons, such as the narration, “Allah will help the servant as long as he helps his brother,” and the narration, “Every good deed is charity,” and others like them.
Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri reported: We were travelling with the Prophet, peace be upon him, when a rider came and began to look right and left. He said:
He who has an extra mount should give that to one who has no mount, and he who has surplus provisions should give them to he who has no provisions.
[Sahih Muslim, Book 18, Number 4290]
Abu Sa’id said: He mentioned so many kinds of wealth until we thought that none of us has a right to a surplus.
Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, decided to embark on an expedition, he would say:
O group of emigrants and helpers, there are among you people who have no property or family. Let everyone of you take along with him two or three man.
[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book of Jihad, Number 2534, Sahih]
Jabir said: There was none of us who had a spare animal so we took rides by turn. I took two or three men with me and I rode my camel by with them by turns.
And Jabir ibn Abdullah also reported:
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, would stay in the behind while traveling and he would encourage the weak; he would take someone on his back and supplicate for him.
[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book of Jihad, Number 2639, Hasan]
