In modern Japan, a heartbreaking reality unfolds every year:
Over 30,000 elderly people die completely alone, their bodies left undiscovered for weeks or even months. This tragic phenomenon is known as Kodokushi — “the lonely death.”
One painful example is a 91-year-old paralyzed man from Osaka. His wife, the only person who cared for him, passed away first. He then died of hunger beside her. Their decomposed bodies were only discovered weeks later.
Their son had moved away long ago… and never bothered to check on them.
This is what happens when family bonds are abandoned.
This is why Islam considers cutting ties of kinship a major sin.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“If you turn away, would you then spread corruption on earth and break your family ties?
Those are the ones Allah has cursed, making them deaf and blind.” (47:22–23)
