Islamic Response: Does Jesus Have the Keys to Hell?

Islamic Response: Does Jesus Have the Keys to Hell?
1. Only Allah Has Control Over Heaven and Hell
In Islam, the ultimate authority over Paradise (Jannah) and Hell (Jahannam) belongs only to Allah. The Quran makes this clear:
“To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent.”
(Surah Al-Hadid 57:2)
“Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth, and the disbeliever will say, ‘Oh, I wish that I were dust!’”
(Surah An-Naba 78:40)
No prophet, including Jesus (Isa, peace be upon him), Muhammad (peace be upon him), Moses, or Abraham, has control over Hell or Paradise.
2. Misinterpretation of “Keys to Hell” in Christianity
Some Christian interpretations cite Revelation 1:18, where Jesus is quoted as saying:
“I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
However, this does not mean Jesus controls Hell. In biblical context:
• “Hades” is not the final Hell (Gehenna) but a temporary place of the dead.
• Even in Christianity, ultimate judgment belongs to God, not Jesus alone.
This is confirmed in Acts 2:22, where Jesus is called a man approved by God, not God Himself.
3. Jesus in Islam: A Messenger, Not a Judge of Hell
Islam teaches that Jesus (Isa, peace be upon him) is a great prophet and messenger, not a divine judge over Hell.
On the Day of Judgment, Jesus will stand as a witness against those who falsely worshipped him:
“And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, ‘O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people: Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?’ He will say: Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it.”
(Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:116)
This verse proves that Jesus will not be the judge, but rather, he will testify before Allah against those who wrongly worshipped him.
4. The True Judge of the Afterlife
The Quran clearly states that only Allah decides who enters Paradise or Hell:
“Say, ‘Indeed, the affair belongs completely to Allah.’”
(Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:154)
“Indeed, those who disbelieve and commit wrongdoings—never will Allah forgive them, nor will He guide them to a path except the path of Hell, wherein they will abide forever.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:168-169)
5. Final Call: Worship the True God Before It’s Too Late
If you believe that Jesus controls Hell, then ask yourself:
• Where did Jesus ever say, “I am God, worship me”?
• Why does the Bible itself say that only God (not Jesus) is the Judge? (Matthew 7:21-23, John 5:30)
I invite you to worship Allah alone, the One True Judge, who has the power over Heaven and Hell. Say the Shahada today:
“I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Messenger.”
May Allah guide you to the truth before death arrives, because on that day, no excuses will be accepted.
